Respect
For the ocean, the lineup, the locals, and the places we’re lucky to surf.
Traditional maps begin with an address. Surf trips begin with a wave. That changes everything.
A break may be down an unnamed road, across a reef, behind a village, or a long walk from the nearest recognizable landmark. The best food may be a roadside stand. The closest board rental might communicate only through WhatsApp. The best place to stay may never appear when searching for a conventional hotel.
Alani Surf is building a map of that world. Not only the breaks, but everything connected to them. And because surfing is personal, Alani gives every surfer a private place to remember the sessions, boards, conditions, and places that shape their life in the water.
Surfr App started the way most good things in surfing do: two mates and a shared obsession with finding waves. In 2013 they built a surf log and spot app to memorialize their time on the water.
It caught on. Surfr App broke into the top 50 sports apps on the App Store and tens of thousands of surfers logged their sessions with it. Then, like a lot of good swells, it ran out of runway before we could build the business to keep it going. We learned what surfers will and won't share, and what they actually need around a break.
Alani Surf is the comeback. Same two friends, same log at the heart of it, still private by default. Around it now: conditions that learn your good days, your Lineup, and the world around every break: coffee, stays, shops, stoke. The name is new. The stoke isn't. We've been waiting a long time to paddle back out.
2013For the ocean, the lineup, the locals, and the places we’re lucky to surf.
The chase, the risk, the road, the breath before you paddle out.
Friends, joy, love, sharing, and that feeling that keeps bringing you back.
The same rules that work in the water should work here.
