Privacy
Your sessions are yours. Here's exactly what we keep.
Effective 20 September 2026. Alani Surf is made by bundleIQ, Inc. for surfers. This page says what the app and alanisurf.com collect, why, and how to get rid of it.
What we collect
- Your account. Sign in with Apple, Google, or an email code. We store your email (or Apple's relay address), a username, a display name and an optional photo and bio. No passwords, ever.
- Sessions you log. The break, the date, your rating, a note, photos you attach, and the conditions that were in at the time. Private by default. You choose per session whether friends, a crew or everyone can see it, and how precisely the break is shown.
- Breaks and places you follow or pin. Favourites, your home break, breaks you pin (secret by default), places you add and stamp.
- Location. Only while the app is open, to show breaks and places near you and to fill in conditions. We do not track you in the background and we do not store a location history.
- Contacts, if you use Find friends. Emails and phone numbers are scrambled (hashed) on your phone before anything leaves it. We match the scrambles against surfers already here and keep nothing readable.
- A device id. A random id for counting sponsor impressions and capping them. It is not tied to advertising identifiers.
What we don't do
- We don't sell or share your data with data brokers or advertisers.
- We don't show ads that follow you. A sponsor on a break page sees counts, never people.
- We don't read your sessions to build a profile of you for anyone else. Your ratings train your own heads-up at your own breaks.
Who processes it
Supabase (database and sign-in, hosted in the United States), Apple (Sign in with Apple, Maps, push notifications), Google (Google sign-in, only if you use it), Netlify (this website), Open-Meteo and NOAA (forecast and buoy data, which receive a break's coordinates, never yours). Each processes data only to run the service.
Your choices
- Change who sees a session any time from the session page.
- Turn location off in iOS Settings; the app then shows the coast you pick.
- Delete a session, a pin or a place you added from its page.
- Delete your account from You › Edit profile, or email nick@alanisurf.com and we remove your account and everything tied to it within 30 days.
Kids
Alani Surf is for surfers 13 and up. If a younger surfer has made an account, tell us and we'll remove it.
